When we opened, we started with a published curriculum, like many centers do. It gave us a strong foundation. But the more we watched our children learn, the clearer it became that we wanted something that truly reflected who we are.
So we built it. Known & Growing is the curriculum created by Benevolent House Academy, and it is rooted in the same belief that started everything: every child deserves to be known, and every child is growing.
What it looks like in our classrooms
Daily feelings check-ins. Every morning begins with connection. Children name how they feel, practice calming strategies, and learn that their feelings matter.
Monthly character traits. Each month, the whole center focuses on one trait, such as kindness, courage, patience, or respect. Stories, activities, and recognition all point back to it.
Letters and early literacy. Children build letter knowledge, sounds, and a love of books through activities matched to their age.
Original books and activities. Our team writes many of the stories and activities our children use, so they see their own world reflected in what they learn.
Family connection. We celebrate every kind of family, and we keep parents connected to what their child is learning.
The Friday portfolio
Every Friday, children bring home a portfolio of their work from the week. It is one of our favorite traditions, because it gives families a window into their child’s growth and something to talk about together over the weekend.
Known & Growing will keep growing, too. Our team continues to add to it as we learn what works best for our children. We are proud of it, and even prouder of the children it serves.
